“Our bar for the day was an original London Routemaster Bus, transformed into a working bar with a seating area on the upper deck. It was totally brilliant and all our guests loved it. “My mum and dad surprised Ian and I by hiring the Singing Waiters to serve our wedding breakfast. They were caterers in disguise and had a whole act where they pretended to be normal waiters before bursting into song. I was going mad, thinking they’d hijacked my wedding! “My husband and his father run Woodfordes Real Ale Brewery in Norfolk, so we had special bottles of beer made, complete with a specially printed label on which was the story of how we met and got engaged. The beer was called ‘To Have and To Hold’…so people could take them home with them!” Penny

A fairground carousel
“One of the main reasons we fell in love with Preston Court in Canterbury was because it’s also an antique steam fair museum and it has a working carousel in the garden! We got some gorgeous photos of us and our guests riding on the horses and it was a unique talking point that people hadn’t seen at a wedding before.” Rachel
Feeding time
“We got married at Marwell Hall, which is a beautiful stately home within the grounds of Marwell Wildlife Park in Winchester. After our ceremony we got to go to the zoo with our guests and feed the penguins their lunch!” Alice
A family ceremony
“We did a hand fastening with our four girls during the ceremony. We made a long ribbon using different sections to represent each of us and the girls then wrapped it around our hands saying vows and promises to us.” Kim
River Cottage venue
“Our wedding rocked because we got married at River Cottage HQ! The chef gave a toast to all our guests and explained exactly how all the food was cooked, and where all the ingredients had come from.” Esme
A DJ-ing bride

“We decided to have a piñata (officially for the kids…) because, well, we love any excuse to have a piñata. It was one of my favourite parts of the day standing in the sunshine and thwacking that cardboard donkey!” Emily
Light-up letters
“I hired two giant light up letters (C & E) which we put on the balcony coming off of the main ceremony and reception room. This was a huge surprise – very few people aside from the venue and I knew about these, not even my husband. It was brilliant when we switched them on in the evening and our photographer, got some amazing pictures.” Claire
A farmyard venue
“We loved our venue Grittenham Barn. The first thing that made us fall in love with the place was their donkey! A lot of the venues we visited felt very impersonal, whereas Grittenham Barn is a real family home with ducklings, piglets and beautiful scenery stretching for miles.” Shelley
Surprise fireworks
“Craig’s mum and dad had secretly arranged for the venue to put on a fireworks display during the evening reception, which was a great surprise for us and our guests.” Samantha
A personal and secondary ceremony
“We created our own ceremony, conducted by Patrick’s brother Hugh. We had our rings passed around to all the guests to hold in their hands and bestow love and good wishes on them. We had my dad and Patrick’s mum tie our hands together for the vows, inspired by hand tying ceremonies.” Emma
Pets welcome
“Our venue (York Maze) were so brilliant and very accommodating of all our requests. They even let us bring our miniature dachshund to the wedding, which definitely made the day rock for us.” Helen
An archery range
“For our traditional country wedding, we added a few little surprises to make our wedding unique – the best being the archery range we hired. Everyone got stuck in and had a go, and no one had ever tried that at a wedding before!” Abbi
