6 Reasons to Spend Your Minimoon in Marbella

If you’re planning a romantic getaway with your other half before or after your wedding day, you’d be forgiven for inititially writing off Marbella. But you would be wrong.

For years, Marbella – and it’s glitzy neighbour Pueto Banús – has garnered a reputation as a hedonistic party destiniation. Attracting a glamourous bunch of sunseekers with celeb clad beach clubs and free-flowing Dom Perignon. It’s also a favourite among hens and stags, flocking to the Costa del Sol for a last taste of freedom (and sangria).

However, there is a whole other side to the Spanish city. With winding, cobbled streets, Micheli starred restaurants and boutique hotels, Marbella is fast-becoming a romantic bolt-hole for newlyweds.

Thanks to Amàre Beach Hotel, we spent a weekend eating, drinking and soaking up the sun in beautiful Marbella. And here’s why you should to.

Catch Affordable Flights to Marbella

In just under three hours you’ll be transported from the (so far, disappointing) British weather to sunnier climates on the Costa del Sul. Flights from London to Malaga are approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, while the 30-mile transfer to Marbella will see you checking in to your hotel within the hour.

They’re affordable, too. Ryanair are currently offering flights from as low as £41 one-way from London Luton to Malaga this summer.

Stay in a Luxury Hotel

Amàre Beach Hotel Marbella has now opened it’s doors for the Summer 2019 season, providing a lavish yet laid back haven for couples seeking a relaxing minimoon in the sun.

Situated right on the promenade overlooking the beach and a 5 minute walk from Marbella’s old town, adults only Amàre Hotel offers the best of both worlds.

For splashing out on your minimoon, booking into an Oh Là Là The One room is essential. Each boasting magnificent sea views, these elegant and spacious rooms also come with access to The One – a private lounge with complimentary snacks and drinks served from 11am to 11pm.

In the evenings, head up to the Belvue Rooftop Bar and lap up the spectacular 360º views of the Mediterranean Sea and Marbella’s old town. Enjoy a cocktail (or three) as live DJs fill the air with mellow beats long into the night.

Indulge in Fine Dining at a Michelin Star Restaurant

Just next door to Amàre, you’ll find Messina. A Michelin star restaurant serving up a mouthwatering menu of South American inspired dishes, as well as modern twists on local delicacies.

The menu changes seasonally using mainly fish and crustaceans from the Mediterranean sea and also local products from Andalucia.

Although boasting a delicious à la carte selection, it’s the tasting menus which are really phenominal. There’s also the option of wine pairing (why not? It’s your minimoon in Marbella after all). Each dish is paired with the perfect wine to complement it’s unique flavours.

Explore the Charming Old Town of Marbella

Step back from the glitz and glam of the beach clubs along the promenade and head into Marbella’s old town full of rustic charm. Stroll in the direction of Orange Square, a beautiful open courtyard built in 1485 brimming with picturesque orange trees and set right in the heart of Mabella’s Old Quarter.

For a romantic evening with your other half, meander through the cobbled streets where buildings date as far back as the 16th century.

Make sure you pay a visit to Ermita de Santiago, the oldest Christian Parish Church in Marbella, before settling in for an evening of tapas and sangria at a hidden local hotspot on Pantaleon Street – the narrowest street in the city.

Hike up to Incredible Views

Work up a sweat hiking one of Marbella’s excellent trails. Along the base of the mountains, trek through picturesque Spanish forests, spotting the blossoming flora & fauna along the way, or climb to the mountain’s peak to admire the sensational views beneath. Cyclist’s will enjoy cruising along the promenade, or exploring forests of large oak trees, which are even home to the protected Hispanic ibex.

Relax and Recharge on the Beach

Spend your holiday unwinding at Amàre Marbella’s Spa by Germaine De Cappuccini. Here you can indulge in a series of invigorating massages, revitalising facials and refreshing body wraps. New on the menu for 2019 is the 50 minute Sleep Ritual, created to improve sleep by cleansing the body and mind.

Guests can also take advantage of the hotel’s comprehensive wellness facilities and programmes, including yoga classes, a hydrotherapy circuit, Turkish bath and personal training sessions. There’s even the option to take your morning yoga class to the beach.
