This couple enjoyed eight years of adventures before getting engaged, exploring almost every inch of the globe from Cuba to New York to Everest Base Camp! It’s only fitting then, that their proposal should not only take place overseas, but also high up, in the restaurant at the top of the Eiffel Tower to be precise. “We had eaten five courses and for the sixth the waiter brought out a silver platter concealing an Astley Clarke ring box!” smiles Laura.

The bride’s Catherine Deane dress felt like it was meant to be. “The boutique was local and I just loved the modern, unfussy gown with clean lines and gorgeous lace detailing on the back. I thought I would choose a short dress for our city wedding, but as soon as I tried it on I changed my mind – I felt like a Greek goddess!” Laura accessorised with an Astley Clarke pearl necklace and gold diamond earrings; champagne T-bar heels from Dune, and a oral comb handcrafted by her florist.

Adrian turned to his Scottish roots for his groom attire, wearing a full kilt custom made by Geoffrey Tailor, who even visited London for the fittings.

Russell and Bromley shoes completed the look. Laura tells us, “I’d been with him during the fittings, but he still took my breath away – he looked so manly and dashing!

I had been a bridesmaid three times so it was a difficult decision to just have one, my sister Rachel who is my best friend. We chose a modest navy blue dress from John Lewis – it was more important for me that she looked and felt comfortable, rather than fitting a certain style or colour. The demure cowl neck was beautiful and the lace panel at the back tied in with my dress.” Tamara Tott joined the bridal party to take care of their hair and makeup using Charlotte Tilbury products.

This couple’s wedding was always going to be unusual, being a Scottish wedding held in the art deco Islington town hall. They made the ceremony uniquely theirs with a reading named ‘He Never Leaves the Seat Up’. “It was romantic and fun in equal measure, and our friend added in references to funny stories to make it special.” Their wedding breakfast ended in a similarly special style, with each guest bringing a dessert rather than a gift to create an enormous buffet of puddings!

The Scotland-meets-London theme organically sprung to life for Laura and Adrian’s wedding reception, too. Guests travelled from ceremony to reception by old-school London route master buses, provided by Ensign Buses, with personalised tickets.

Scottish tablet and thistles combined with a London tube station table plan, save the date street signs and red telephone boxes in a fantastic fusion.

“We had a rummage through our reception venue’s prop room, then gave them a brief – it was amazing!” Personalised cake toppers, piñatas gifted from a friend and Irn Bru favours finished the theme.

“I picked my favourite flowers rather than my favourite colours,” explains Laura. “After this, my only stipulations were that they should be organic, delicate, wild and green.

The team at Dansk in Islington then mocked up designs and created all the bouquets, hair pieces and buttonholes, with thistles acting as the running theme.”

No buzzing London wedding would be complete without an equally fun party. This couple requested that their big day be adults only to make the most of the partying, and Funk City Party Band took to the floor first before a DJ from Discowed took over. “For our first dance, we chose Lauryn Hill’s cover of ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’. We both have quite different tastes in music, so we chose this for a modern take on a classic that we knew everyone would be able to join in with.”

This jet-setting couple continued their travel adventures after they tied the knot, booking their honeymoon trip in parts to make their budget go further. “We spent one week in Moorea, one in Bora Bora, both organised with Travel Tahiti, and then one week in Los Angeles on the way back! We adventured out on a 4×4 tour, swam with dolphins in French Polynesia, and visited Disneyland and Universal Studios in LA. I planned the wedding, reading Wedding Ideas on the tube to work, and my hubby organised the incredible honeymoon – that was our deal,” explains Laura.

This couple’s final words of wisdom? “A lot of the things we tried to do ourselves quickly turned into chores because of the sheer amount.

Looking back, we should have involved more people along the way to spread the load – it would definitely have saved us a lot of time and a few late nights!

Pinterest was an invaluable tool to show suppliers exactly what I wanted. Make sure you write everything down after each meeting with a supplier, too, and do it right afterwards rather than leaving it so that you won’t forget any important dates, payments or paperwork.”
