After sharing a romance in a soap they both starred in, Sarah and Samuel’s love story continued off screen too.

“On our first anniversary, Sam proposed!”

“He surprised me with a dinner reservation at a lovely hotel. Then, half way through the meal, he said he wasn’t feeling well and popped out. The next thing I knew, Angelo Kelly, one of my favourite singers, was there, playing our favourite song, and Sam returned with his brother for support, so that he could get down on one knee. He’s such a gentleman, so to be able to do that was important to him. It was so amazingly romantic.”

It wasn’t just one dress that won over this bride for her wedding though, it was two!

“I’d seen Katya Katya London dresses in a magazine and knew they were the bridal designer for me. I headed straight for their flagship London store and fell in love with two wedding dresses.”

Sarah chose a design with a silk taffeta skirt and floral French lace for the big day, purchasing the Maisie dress for her civil ceremony too. “I got goose bumps when I tried them on, I felt so stunning.” Fiarucci Bridal shoes and a pretty veil completed the bride’s big day look.

The groom looked ultra stylish wearing a suit by Italian designer Cleofe Finati, which included a statement silver and blue floral waistcoat. “He looked so handsome and I was so proud that I was about to become his wife. I just wanted to hold his hand and be in his arms,” Sarah gushes.

The couple created a bridal party from all their best friends from every stage of their lives, including family, friends and colleagues.

“The ushers all wore suits and my bridesmaids looked beautiful in wrap dresses.”

The bride asked her regular hairdresser to be both her on-the-day stylist and a guest at their wedding. “He used Alibi products to enhance my elegant up-do, which we finished with a gypsophila flower crown. Ida Arndt, who’d taken care of my makeup many times on set before, did my makeup. I had complete faith that she’d know what I needed, and she did!”

Sarah and Samuel said “I do” in both religious and civil ceremonies. “Sam’s father led one ceremony, speaking about many personal memories. We also asked some good friends to read a passage from a play and Sam’s mum performed a mime play too.”

“It was so special to have such a creative ceremony, although it was important to me that I kept to tradition and walked down the aisle with my dad.”

“We styled our funfair wedding on a feel-good, festival theme with a focus on love. We wanted it to be colourful, filled with happy people and good music – a festival of love, if you like.”

The couple embraced the task of styling their marquee venue with pom poms, garlands and circus-inspired details. “Our wedding planner Fabienne helped us to decorate and my mum, grandmother, sister and I had a fun week before the wedding sorting out all of the pretty finishing touches.”

“We spread our funfair wedding over three days – it was amazing to wake up to another day of celebrations!”

Family friends also took the lead for the flowers, which were a bright and eclectic array of meadow flowers, picked fresh from the village where their wedding celebration was held.

Being a professional baker, the bride’s grandfather was the natural choice when it came to who would bake their wedding cake. “He made my favourite marble cake, decorated with berries. I might be biased, but I’d definitely say it was the best cake in the world!” Sarah enthuses.

The couple’s wedding extended over three days. On the first night, guests were entertained by a variety and cabaret evening of guest acts. On the big day itself, the bride’s brother embraced the role of circus director and singer, performing hits from musicals like Moulin Rouge, personalised to Sarah and Samuel. The groom’s friends performed an aerial gymnastics show; his father took to the stage for a magic show, and the bride herself performed a ballet.

“Don’t be afraid to ask friends and family to get involved, many of them will feel honoured to have been asked.”

“We shared our first dance to a song my brother had written just for us, which was really personal and special. We used a trapeze to enable us to stand up together to share the moment and decided to dance a traditional waltz.”

After their funfair wedding, the newlyweds made a beeline for the Maldives, spending 10 days at W Resorts. “They were amazing – the resort wasn’t barrier free to people in wheelchairs before we visited, but they built about 18 ramps ahead of our stay and now the island is accessible for everyone.”
