A stylish Somerset weekend wedding in romantic shades of blush and gold

After finding a giant egg at the end of an Easter egg hunt around the gardens of Highclere Castle, Jayne was suitably pleased with her chocolate prize. “Mike suddenly became very insistent that I open the egg, but I was confused – I didn’t want to eat it right there and I didn’t plan on sharing it, either!” the bride laughs.

“I followed his instructions and found a ring box inside and then came the most perfect words of our relationship from Mike, “will you marry me?” – I cried with happiness!”

Continuing the theme of her bespoke sapphire and diamond engagement ring, designed by the groom, Jayne set out to customise her chosen wedding dress too.

“I’d found a tulle princess dress with a sweetheart neckline and then had a seamstress make it my own.”

“She added silver threaded lace to the top, adjusted the neckline to create a V-neck and added a blush ribbon with hand-sewn flowers for a belt. I’d struggled to find exactly what I wanted, so this was the perfect way to create my dream dress.”

Jayne accessorised with a cathedral-length veil, borrowed from her friend, sparkly metallic sandals from Rainbow Club at John Lewis and a diamond bracelet from Olivier Laudus. “I felt just as every girl should – like an absolute princess! I couldn’t stop smiling and was quite overwhelmed with emotion.”

Groom Mike also opted for the bespoke approach, commissioning a handmade blush tie and purchasing a navy three-piece suit from Richard James, Mayfair. Rugby cufflinks, brown Aldo shoes and a floral buttonhole completed his look.

“Seeing Mike at the end of the aisle after a morning apart was my favourite moment of the wedding. He was smiling back at me with so much love!”

Four bridesmaids, a flower girl and pageboy formed the bridal party. “My adult attendants wore blush and gold beaded dresses by Adrianna Papell. I fell in love with the dresses at first sight – they were feminine, vintage and the perfect colours.”

Mother and daughter duo hair stylist Tracy Pallari and makeup artist Sasha Pallari joined the ladies to look after their big day beauty. “They were both fantastic and such a laugh! Sasha made my makeup look flawless with a stunning champagne gold smoky eye. Tracy created my gorgeous up-do of loose curls, complemented with sprigs of gypsophila and pearls. Neither budged all day – it was brilliant!

Mike and I married in a religious ceremony at St Michael’s Church in the grounds of North Cadbury Court and I walked down the aisle with my father, who was brilliant and got me there right on time.”

“We chose Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and ‘A Lovely Love Story’ by Edward Monkton for our readings.”

The couple chose Somerset-based Pickers Catering to cook up a storm for their wedding breakfast. “They designed a bespoke menu just for us, starting with smoked duck, goat’s cheese and pomegranate salad served with beetroot chutney. For the main course, we dined on my father and uncle’s home-reared Dexter beef cooked two ways with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and rich red wine gravy.” Dessert was wedding cake, served with clotted cream, summer berries and edible flowers.

“We staggered our speeches throughout the courses of our wedding breakfast.”

“We knew from the beginning that we wanted a weekend wedding in a country house where the majority of our guests could stay too. North Cadbury Court offered us everything we wanted! There was a basement casino, underground disco, swimming pool, golf course and gorgeous grounds for us to enjoy.” The couple also invited The Radio Kings to play for them.

Jayne and Mike styled their Somerset wedding with a blush and gold colour scheme. “It was romantic, feminine and classic, with just the right touch of glamour and sparkle.”

“Wedding Ideas was the first wedding magazine I read, it really helped me to think about our theme and the style we wanted to achieve.”

Tables were topped with blush sequin table runners, with silver candelabra taking centre stage. “Our venue’s grand interiors, fireplaces and pillars complemented the décor perfectly.”

Florist, Julia Moore Floral Designs supplied table runners and candelabra as well as the flowers. “She designed my bouquet using peach peonies, cappuccino, quicksand and spray roses, ranunculus, astilbe, hydrangea and other blooms. I wanted it to feature lots of tonal pinks and Julia captured the dreamy look beautifully.”

The bride’s aunt and cousin are the expert bakers behind Corinne’s Artisan Cakes and kindly offered to make the couple’s wedding cake. “We had four tiers of chocolate, lemon, blueberry and Victoria sponge. The decoration was incredible and, of course, it was utterly delicious too.”

After the big day, Jayne and Mike minimooned at the Rhinefield Hotel in the New Forest. Later in the year, they plan to take a three-week road trip through Canada’s Rocky Mountains.
