I’d like to address a question I’ve been asked more and more as technology has become the norm. Why are e-vites not acceptable when it comes to wedding invitations? The answer may seem straightforward, but there are a couple of things to consider.
First, I’m personally not altogether against e-vites as wedding invitations. The huge caveat for this is the wedding has to be coming up in less than a month. For military weddings where one member of the couple is being deployed, for example, then ordering, mailing, and collecting paper invitations and RSVPs just wouldn’t be feasible. In cases like this, using e-vites is practically necessary.
For traditional weddings, however, paper invitations are still the proper choice. You’re asking your guests to spend money on attire, travel arrangements, child care, shower and wedding gifts, and all manner of possible other expenses for your wedding day. The least you can do is present them with a beautiful paper invitation that they can keep as a keepsake from your wedding. It tells them that their presence is valued and you truly want them to attend.
There is also something to be said about the excitement and build-up that paper invitations lend to a wedding. This gives guests something to stick on the fridge or calendar as a marker for the big day. And if done right, the invitation will reflect your wedding theme to give them a fun sneak-peek at what’s in store.
So when it comes to weighing expenses for your wedding, don’t forgo the paper invitations unless you have no other choice. In the end, you’ll be thrilled you didn’t.
