AURORA – Soshy Adelstein’s dream dress helped make her wedding day perfect. But because the $1,700 price tag stretched her budget thin, she decided to list it on Craigslist, hoping to recover some of the money she’d spent.

But shortly after Adelstein’s listing was posted, she says a woman named Tiffany Kayden emailed her with a proposition, offering to “help sell your gown” at Something Borrowed Bridal Company, a bridal consignment store in Aurora.

“They were willing at the low end to give me $500 after it sold,” Adelstein said. “That’s a tremendous amount of money for selling a dress — that’s almost unheard of.”

Adelstein signed a consignment contract with the store, allowing Kayden to sell her dress and headpiece in the shop. The contract stated 60 percent of the final selling price would be paid back to Adelstein.

In November, Kayden called her with good news.

“She said she sold my headpiece and would be sending me a check in the mail for $80,” Adelstein said.

But the check never came.
