Elegant and Romantic Castle Wedding in the UK…

We recently took a step back in time, and both had the opportunity to spend a magical day as a Farnham Castle wedding photographer. A wedding is always a fairy-tale occasion, and none more so than a ceremony taking place in such a stunning, historic location such as Farnham Castle. The beautiful market town of Farnham stands true to its heritage with quaint Georgian streets, and its castle is the perfect Surrey wedding venue.

The castle made an impressive backdrop to an English country wedding, with echoes of its rich past evident throughout the shots that we took during the ceremony, and the wedding breakfast. Sarah and Ashley got married on a Sunday in July, with glorious summertime weather and clear skies. There are of course challenges to being a castle wedding photographer which may not arise at other types of venue. One of these is trying to decide which of the many original features and unique settings to choose from!

We spent most of the day with Sarah as she got ready at the castle, which gave us plenty of chances to incorporate its timeless heritage into our photos. Features such as the thin slit-type windows, known as embrasures and previously used to fire arrows to defend the castle, were reinvented as the background for a photo starring the bride’s elegant Jenny Packham heels.

The calm and laid-back atmosphere didn’t betray the fact that, after some miscalculations by her tailor, Sarah had been left with no wedding dress two days before the wedding! She had managed to find a gorgeous dress the day before which fit her perfectly, and we captured some beautiful photos of Sarah and the delicate detailing of her dress as she prepared for her wedding day.

Ashley meanwhile, got ready in a small local hotel, followed by some time spent relaxing with his ushers in the pub – the perfect summer Sunday.

Sarah and Ashley struck an unassuming chord with their wedding; intimate in size, with a simple theme characterized by gentle pastels contrasted against bright whites. We love to work with natural light in serene and picturesque surroundings, and the bright simplicity in and around the castle was so complimentary of our photography style.

The wedding day began with a ceremony in a peaceful room in the castle, with some wonderful readings. The guests were then directed along the short walk outside for the reception. It was a perfect, relaxed afternoon in the sunshine, set against the opulent tradition of the castle.

We were so moved by the heart-warming speeches during the wedding breakfast, especially Ashley’s, who said some beautiful words about his family, and of course his lovely new wife.

The cake was incredibly striking and tied in so well with the relaxed, quintessentially British theme of the day. Summer fruits dusted in icing sugar were placed along a delicious sponge, an overall effect packed with color.

The fantastic weather held only one drawback – that the bright sunlight was a little too harsh to take our couple portraits during the afternoon reception! We waited until later in the day, as the sun began to drop, whilst Sarah and Ashley’s guests waited for their delicious desserts. The light was flawless, and we were able to spend more time with the newly-wed couple without any time pressures, which resulted in some truly stunning photographs. Spending more time alone with a couple is ideal for us, as they become more accustomed to the camera, allowing us to capture some very natural and uninhibited photos.

We were delighted to be approached as the Surrey wedding photographer team for Sarah and Ashley’s wonderful day. They were a pleasure to photograph and we so enjoyed both their company, and exploring the scenic town of Farnham. The wedding was a relaxed, warm-hearted day full of close family and friends, enjoying the sunshine and having fun together on the grounds of such an iconic castle.
