A new year, a new Pantone colour of the year. Yay! The colour of the year is always on-trend, and you can count on seeing it everywhere as the year rolls on: in every creative industry and all around the world. Helsinki homewares? Check! Milan fashion? Check! Sydney wedding invitations? You bet! For 2017, the colour is Pantone 15-0343, Greenery, a vibrant green that is typical of brand new leaves and healthy grass.

Pantone describes Greenery as ‘symbolic of new beginnings’, ‘‘illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors’, reminding people to ‘take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate’.

In 2017, Greenery will begin to appear everywhere: in fashion, design, furnishings, and, of course, in weddings. This might be surprising, since a bold green isn’t an obvious choice for your wedding colour palette. Used correctly, though, it will change your mind.

Greenery works best in small bursts, paired with more neutral tones. If you’re after more colour, try matching it with grounding darker shades. Think deep reds and purples, even blues, like berries on a branch. For an outdoor wedding or garden party, try using green as a unifying theme colour amid florals. You can also use pops of the colour with an otherwise sleek white theme to draw attention to the green surroundings and make nature feel like part of the day. (Word to the wise, make sure the surroundings will actually be green if you’re going to try this! It might not be quite as effective in the middle of an Australian Summer with dead, brown grass).

If the specific colour isn’t your cup of tea, try going for a slightly darker or more washed-out version. Just going with different shades of green will put you on trend, even if it’s not the exact colour, and since the colour symbolises new beginnings and life, it has the perfect energy for the start of your life together.

We all know the wedding invitation suite is at the core of your wedding style, so keep scrolling for some wedding inspiration! Here are some of our favourite green wedding invitations for a wedding inspired by Pantone’s 2017 colour of the year.
