Whether you’re a bride doing your own makeup or a makeup artist in search of some tips to keep your bride pleased, there are many secrets to ensure you have makeup that lasts all night. Weddings are typically an all day event, and worrying about reapplying should be the last thing on the bride’s mind. There is no right or wrong makeup brand to use on your big day. It all has to do with the steps taken to prevent the “melted-face” look and keep you looking absolutely stunning.

Prep

The first thing you need to do is start with a clean face. Pat dry and apply a hydrating gel moisturizer and remove excess oils with blotting paper. Once your face is hydrated, prep some more with primer oil, and mattify your T-zone.

Prime

Use foundation primer for creating the perfect canvas for flawless foundation application and concealer for hiding imperfections. Any kind of lash primer and eyeshadow primer are key for lasting eye makeup. Priming your face and eyes will enhance the longevity of your makeup. You’ll be happy you did especially for those hot days or maybe on a good-luck rain storm!

Eyes

After using eye primer, it’s time to go in with eyeshadow. The most common makeup trends go for brown colors for a natural look or a smokey eye for a dramatic effect. If you’re wanting your eyes to pop, try using colors that make your eye color stand out.

Blue eyes really stand out with brown tones, bronze, as well as copper. Anything with orange undertones will really make the blue color pop.
Green eyes show best when matched with purples, plums, and taupes. Hazel eyes pair with deep greens, lavenders, and shades of soft yellow. Lastly, brown eyes work with all colors, especially purples, pinks, grays or blues!

Finish the eyes with a bold liquid liner and fake lashes! You can also set the liner with black eyeshadow.

Pro-tip: Line the waterline with white liner to make your eyes look bigger for photos.

Face

If you have the opportunity to use airbrush, do so. Airbrush will not only have your skin looking flawless, but it will last all day and all night! This is key, especially for your wedding day. It’s also worth the splurge! Make sure to set the face with translucent powder to blend and for an overall natural finish. Apply finishing spray to set the face as a whole and keep it all in place so your makeup won’t run or fade.

Lips

When it comes to lips, it’s so easy to pick a hit-or-miss shade. Try to match your lip color with your florals. If you’re not brave enough, there’s no harm in a natural lip. For long lasting lips, start with lip balm. Line your lips with lip liner to keep a clean and flawless look. Especially when you’re using a dark or bold color, lip liner is key. Go over the lips with a gloss and clean up any smudges with concealer.
