Weddings can be a great place to meet your future partner, as Anna-May and David prove. “We met in 2002 at a wedding at Haigh Hall and I knew I was onto a winner! Nine years later he took me back there for a Champagne picnic and proposed, and then a chauffeur appeared to whisk us away to Paris for the weekend!”

This bride was spoilt for choice when it came to finding her dream dress and ended up choosing two!

“For the ceremony and wedding breakfast I wore a white Diana Harbridge gown. It featured a satin sweetheart neckline and a net A-line skirt, a real princess dress, then for the evening I changed into a fitted fishtail gown.”

I loved the keyhole back and the glass beaded embellishment on my Signature collection Wed2B dress.” Anna-May added the ‘Fingertip’ veil from Wed2B, silver court shoes with diamond toes from Ado and a Swarovski necklace gifted by her best friend to accessorize.

Whitfield and Ward was groom David’s destination of choice. “David chose a fitted, tailored blue suit with a grey tweed style waistcoat. The groomsmen wore coral ties to match the beautiful bridesmaid dresses.” Anna-May’s best girls stepped down the aisle in coral, floor-length chiffon gowns with jewelled bodices. The bride’s sister, who was pregnant at the time, wore a matching maternity gown from Mamalicious, and they all teamed their dresses with gold sparkly sandals, sourced in New Look. “I’m a makeup artist myself,” Anna-May tells us, “so I did my sister’s makeup but treated myself to having one of my colleagues do mine.”

The couple held their civil ceremony at Eaves Hall in Clitheroe. “It was a lovely day so we actually managed to hold the ceremony outside, which was a first for our registrar! My cousin read ‘A Lifetime of Love’ and pianist Ken Robson played well known love songs as our musical accompaniment. Seeing David’s dimples at the end of the aisle and feeling the sun beating down on us was just perfect.”

For their wedding breakfast, guests could choose from three options for each course, including duck three ways to start, wellington for the main and sticky toffee pudding, crème brulee or Bakewell tart for dessert.

Our wedding theme was bling, bling and more bling! I love sparkle, so I had place settings printed in gold foil, which I made with my sister, who runs Honey Lou Weddings.”

She designed all of our wedding stationery in a majestic design featuring gold foil. I purchased two enormous mirrored vases for my pew ends, added jam jars of tea lights and we made the table numbers from mirrored coasters. Wedding Ideas really inspired me to have a go at doing as much as I could myself.”

The groom’s mother grew hundreds of sweet peas and wild flowers to fill the table centre vases. “This was particularly sentimental for me because my grandma who is no longer with us had sweet peas in her own wedding bouquet all those years ago.” Stacey from Perfect Daze designed the bouquets using Miss Piggy roses, gerberas, peonies, hydrangeas and sweet peas. Flowers also featured on the couple’s three-tier wedding cake, which was decorated traditionally with silk flowers between each tier.

If one couple knows how to throw a great party, it’s this one. “The Kickstarts Band played during the evening reception. I joined the band to play the drums during Bon Jovi’s ‘Living on a Prayer’ just before the encore”, the bride reveals.

“It was a big surprise for guests because many of them didn’t know I could play the drums! “

We also did a rhumba style dance to Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor’s ‘Marvin Gaye’. Needless to say, we practised a lot! It’s definitely worth booking a few dance lessons to create your routine and then to practise at home like we did. You’ll have the time of your lives so make the most of it!”

Anna-May and David then jetted off to Italy for a romantic and indulgent honeymoon. “We spent three days in Venice, three in Rome and four in Sorrento – it was magical! Our days were filled with great Italian food and ice cream, wonderful sights and a chilled out approach.”

And if you’re thinking of booking wedding transport, this bride has a tip for you. “My brother-in-law drove me to the wedding himself. I laughed all the way to the venue and really appreciated being chauffeured by a family member as opposed to a complete stranger. It just felt more personal and really helped to keep me relaxed.”
