After all the excitement of the wedding, a mini moon with your new husband or wife may be just what you need to celebrate your marriage before the big honeymoon. If you’re not one for a beach break or a country retreat, New York City may be just the ticket.
All the excitement, the hustle and bustle and the culture is enough to make you giddy. Think of all the rooftop bars, the walls in Central Park and the Mexican food. Oh god, the Mexican food. These are just a few reasons why we think NYC should be on your mini moon shortlist, but we’ve got the inside line on where to stay, where to eat and what to do.
Where to Stay
The beautiful thing about the Big Apple, is that you can walk for hours on end and everything is different. We’d suggest staying in Midtown so you can access everything easily as it’s all pretty equidistant.
Where to Eat Brunch
Brunch is a big thing in NYC and boy do they know how to brunch. After a week of indulging in pancake stacks, french toast and the all-American biscuits and gravy, we’ve narrowed down our top three.
Bubbys
If you want the best pancakes there isn’t anywhere else, we assure you. The heartiest portions you ever did see with every topping you could hope for, and that’s just one portion. Pair with a cold brew coffee and sit outdoors overlooking the High Line. The epitome of contentment.
The Spaniard
This is brunch with an air of sophistication located in the heart of Soho (??) Book a booth and enjoy the luxe leather seats and the comfortable buzz. They take brunch seriously here with some of the best cocktails we’d tasted all week. We’d suggest the New York steak or the Chilaquiles with a side of warm, freshly baked biscuits. Pair with either the Orange Whip cocktail or the Breakfast Margarita and you’ll be suitably content with this great brunch find.
The Penrose
The perfect spot if you’ve taken a morning stroll through Central Park and through the the Upper East Side. The Penrose is comfortable and your ideal Sunday boozy brunch spot. It has a real American feel to it with the friendliest team of waiters.
You’ll be hard-pushed not to over indulge at this joint but if you’re keen to try some good chicken and waffles then Penrose is for you. We’d suggest one of their Bloody Mary’s (there’s three to choose from) which all have a great bite to them, or the Blueberry Bramble if you’re a big gin drinker.
Where to Eat Dinner
Black Ant
If you love Mexican food, you’ll quickly realise that nowhere in the UK does Mexican like the US. For something authentic Black Ant in the East Village (??) is a must for incredible tacos (suckling pig in particular), black cod and perfectly crisp croquettes. It’s unlike other Mexicans as food is sprinkled with real black ants and crickets. We’d recommend not filling up on the guac and chips, however tempting, as the portions are hearty.
Buddakan
For some romance and luxury, book well ahead for Buddakan. It has a grand setting and lively buzz and we’d recommend prioritising the appetisers over mains as the dim sum is spectacular. It’s classy, tasty and very New York. It’s definitely a great spot for honeymooners.
Where to Drink
What to do
The possibilities are endless. What isn’t there to do? Obviously get all the tourist-y bits in, we’d recommend a boat tour to get everything in on go, plus you’ll get Instagram-perfect pictures of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan from the boat.
For a little more romance, we’d recommend getting a boat out in Central Park, maybe take a bottle of fizz and some snacks with you because you can lose a lot of hours whiling away on the water.
