Here are a few tips to ensure a paw-sitive experience when including your furry best friend on your wedding day!
Consider your dog’s personality and temperament
You do not want your dog to be stressed out on your wedding day. Ask yourself how well they do in unknown environments, in crowds, and around strangers. This will help you determine the best way to include them in the day.
Set a schedule and bring necessary supplies for all of your pup’s needs
Similar to your own timeline, your dog will need a schedule, as well. Plan ahead of time what pictures & activities you’d like your dog to be a part of & have arrangements in place to get them to each location. Make sure you have all their necessary supplies such as leashes, poop bags, water bowls, food, lint roller, etc.
Let your vendors know how you will be including your dog in the day
Your vendors want to make sure everything runs smoothly & so you want to avoid any surprises for them on the day of, especially one as big as your dog’s presence! Make sure you have permission from your venue to have your dog on property, let your planner know exactly when & where your dog will need to be on the day of & discuss the photos you’d like to include your dog in with your photographer ahead of time. Keeping everyone on the same page is important.
Make sure your pup is dressed to impress
Schedule a grooming appointment a day or two before the wedding day & consider what you’d like your dog to wear for their big debut. There are great custom attire options you can order on Etsy, or you could even make something for them yourself!
Hire a professional pet sitter for the day of your wedding
You will be able to relax much easier knowing that there is someone whose sole focus is on your dog. Your vendors will be busy working hard on other things & you don’t want to put the responsibility for your dog’s care on one of your guests. This will ensure you will not have to worry, your guests will be able to remain present and most importantly, all of your dog’s needs will be met!
Thanks, Ilana and Kelly, great advice for our readers!
