Spa Review: Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, Switzerland

Sometimes you just want the world to stop, so you can breathe deeply and press the re-set button. The Swiss spa experience is synonymous with promoting wellbeing as well as that gorgeous alpine air, incredible mountain scenery and the latest treatments.

Needing a little (well a lot) of that, I decided to check in to Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel and Spa. Nestled between two lakes right in the heart of the Jungfrau mountain region, the hotel is home to the dedicated Nescens Spa, offering personalised better-aging coaching to help you eat better, manage stress and recharge your batteries.

The spa’s medical team is trained in preventive health and anti-aging and each program is designed in a balanced formula to help your overall well-being. There are tailor-made programs lasting for four days, perfect for a revitalising long weekend and a self re-set.

The Nescens Spa covers 5,500 square metres and offers an indoor pool, steam rooms and saunas, but I loved relaxing in the heated outdoor saltwater pool overlooking the mountains. I don’t think you can beat this experience to detoxify the body and mind, soaking in the therapeutic waters whilst breathing in fresh air.

After a relaxing morning, I started on my ‘Better-Aging’ programme where I started with the latest in technology body scan to assess my overall health. Afterwards I saw a nutritionist who gave me a personalised eating plan for my stay with all the meals prepared by the chef using organic ingredients sourced within 40k of the hotel. The personal trainers here are extremely experienced and mine developed a training program that focussed on strength training and one I could easily manage back home carry to carry on the good work.

The beauty treatments take place in state-of-the-art rooms, and the variety is quite something. I wanted to get rid of my tired looking skin so opted for a gentle facial peel and feeling a little sluggish, I chose a non-invasive cellulite busting treatment followed by a massage to get the circulation going again.

The hotel also encourages guests to enjoy the beautiful nature on the doorstep, so I re-energised by taking a gentle hike along with some other guests and a knowledgeable guide,  which is a great way to meet people, along one one of the many trails, the scenery is just breath taking, with the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks in the dsitance.

The hotel has 224 rooms and suites and is certainly opulent offering all the 5-star luxuries you’d expect along with beautiful interiors complete with chandeliers and fresco paintings. My room was huge with a luxe bathroom and lovely views across the grounds, again with mountains in the distance. The hotel and spa exist as one and both work to make sure you are feeling pampered at all times. This is a great one-stop shop to have a holiday, eat well and increase your feeling of well-being. I went home feeling refreshed and energised, ready to take on the world once again!
