An Expert’s Guide to an Ibiza Honeymoon

Everyone has a place in the world that really speaks to them, and for me it’s Ibiza. I have never known a place to get as quickly under the skin. The quiet coves and powdery beaches appeal to saintly solace-and-sun seeking, the old town boutiques are the hippest in Europe and for a pinch of hedonism, nowhere knows how to throw down sundowners at sunset like the white Isle.

And it’s always heaved with A list icons: Elizabeth Taylor in the 50s, Bowie in the 80s, Kate Moss in the 90s to The Duchess of Sussex this August. Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender held their romantic nuptials in an exclusive finca and if a sexy honeymoon escape in under three hours’ flight time is what you’re after, it’s an unbeatable destination.

Where to Stay for Your Honeymoon in Ibiza: Hotel Torre Del Mar, Playa D’en Bossa

After snagging a taxi from Ibiza airport, we’re at our new home for the week – Hotel Torre Del Mar – in pretty Playa d’en Bossa in under 15 minutes. With an adults-only ethos, it’s here you’ll find Europe’s honey limbed set shutting out the rest of the world for some downtime. The serene surroundings are the epitome of everything chill-out Ibiza has to offer; cool white spaces balancing geometric design elements in the public areas, bleached woods, stone floors and squishy oversized sofas by the bar.

The Suite

I thank my lucky stars as I head up from the ground floor living room of our smart-as-a-pin, split-level duplex to a ginormous bedroom. With a neutral colour palette, a huge bathtub next to a king bed (with superb bounce-factor), white walls flanked by the works of Spanish artists, a fully stocked mini-bar and floor-to-ceiling windows, we’ve secured a seductive hangout with full-scale pampering for grown-ups. There’s a wide-frame view of the rugged coastline from our wraparound terrace and it’s just as impressive as the suite with a double Bali bed, hot tub and dining area.

You’ll Love…

While there are 230 rooms (including 12 suites), the hotel’s millennial-style infinity pool is worth 10,000 fire emojis alone. After selfies, I recline onto a dreamy lounger next to it, feeling like an extra from a Bond film. The heat shimmies against funky beats flowing in the air, my eyes take a pampering from the views over the Med and my tastebuds tingle from sipping on mojitos. I’m in my element. Sure, there are visiting Insta influencers, but don’t worry – they’re so discreet you won’t find out until after they’ve left, posted and tagged. Besides, late afternoon you’ll be busy joining the serious bathers by migrating to a terrace with private cabanas, more cocktails and 360-degree views. On my first day, I barely move until dinner.

Where to eat During Your Honeymoon in Ibiza

Food is a real highlight of my stay: tempting catches brought in daily by fishermen means I am treated to traditional Catalan dishes consisting of fresh fish crusted with salt and olive oil and tapas at Restaurante Panaramico which overlooks a bay hosting twinkling boats at night. The mood is breezy and light and a table outdoors even more enchanting. Breakfasts of candy cotton tomato bread, spicy Spanish omelettes with cava can be taken en suite or at the restaurant. I also enjoy tucking into waffles topped with creamy yogurt, local honey and strawberries.

Indulge in a Spa

Back inside the hotel, Sal Rosa Spa is miniature paradise (especially when you’ve woken up a little weary from partying alongside the elite at superclub Lio the night before). It comes equipped with jugs of iced cucumber water, a gym and spa complete with indoor pool, rain showers, a Finnish sauna and steam baths.

But luxury trappings and eye-catching design elements aside, I find the greatest investment made by owners of Torre Del Mar is the staff. Everyone is friendly and intuitive.

I travelled to Ibiza with fantasies of sensory overload: of sizzling jugs of sangria, spa-ing and of dipping my toes in the sand. I did more. I lived a lifetime in a week.

More Places to Visit in Ibiza

Nobu Ibiza Bay, Talamanca Bay

Dress up big; the Island’s biggest foodie resort is home to two fabulous eateries, including the Signature Nobu chain. Lunch at Chambao – the hotel’s chiringuito/ beach club – is as sceney as it is laidback. Book Bali beds by the pool after lunch before embracing an endless local art collection inside the hotel. You’ll find both the jet-set hopping off their bobbing yachts and families wandering in from the beach sipping on fresh watermelon juices before ordering sharing dishes of grilled fish and salads. And in light of the burgeoning vegan scene on the island, the excellent chefs have devised generous farm-fresh menus for all dietary needs. Starting with artichoke hearts sautéed with manchego cheese & truffle oil, I savour a precision-cooked, gluten-free Valencian paella, washed down beautifully with A Château Beaulieu rose. Casual and elegant, it’s the ultimate al fresco treat.

Amante Beach Club

Amante’s the gold standard of beach clubs and romantic al fresco dining under starlit skies. Start with organic breakfasts and yoga at 8am before flopping onto a day bed for two. The peaceful, rustic vibe is formed around a cliffside dotted with lush greenery and hides a secluded golden beach where you can dip into soft tumbling waves post-meal. Order the sirvia fish with sautéed courgette spaghetti and pistachio vinaigrette and the charred squid – it’s a gastronome’s delight. Another star dish is the charred octopus. Btw, three hour lunches are the norm. In peak summer, the lower level of the club is transformed into a deluxe outdoor cinema with beanbags and flowing-champagne alongside classic movies.

Ibiza Old Town

Walk along the ruined Roman roads of UNESCO-protected Old Ibiza town –before a romantic dinner at the foot of the old castle in La Brasa which is flanked by fairylight and is one restaurant I always recommend.

Las Salinas

Las Salinas is always one of my highlights. Widely considered one of the best beaches in Ibiza, we party at noon and watch children playing football in the sand after picking up brightly-coloured blankets from a witty beach seller. Later, be sure to swim off a lunch of small plates at Sa Trinxa a hotspot with celebs like Kate Moss and Jade Jagger.

Experimental Beach Club

A dusty-track drive across the Salinas salt flats brings us to Experimental Beach Club the next day. We stumble across the best red wine sangria and take a unique sunset hike with our feet hugging the edges of peachy-hued cliffs. After sunset a DJ spins laid-back funk and 90s dancehall. Don’t be surprised to find yourselves dancing alongside monied Europeans, free-love hippies and a few of the party Isle’s 80s rave veterans who kicked about telling tales of Pikes.

Ibiza Rocks for your Ibiza Honeymoon Pool Party

For pool parties, head for the VIP Experience at Ibiza Rocks where DJ EZ, Radio 1Xtra, and Craig David take on residencies over the summer. Packages include bali beds and champagne on arrival.

Head North

Be sure to head to the remote north of the Island too. Adults-only Barcelo Portinatx sits on a sandy beach and is bohemian perfection with a rustic vibe. Hatha yoga is on offer every morning. Popular with European models, be sure to book a room with a hot tub and prepare to switch off.

Ibiza Honeymoon Essentials and Getting There

Beat the queues and honeymoon in style at Birmingham Airport with express lane security passes and Lounge Acccess at the recently launched Club Rooms – a luxury lounge featuring a la carte menus, premium drinks and dedicated waiters.

Birmingham Airport has direct flights to Ibiza via Jet2 and BA.
