The Most Extravagant Celebrity Weddings in Recent Years…

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

The Bollywood star and American singer demonstrated a fusion of cultures in December 2018, throwing one of the most beautiful and extravagant weddings of the decade.

The Venue:

For which part of the celebrations? The couple invited friends and family to celebrate their love, not just on the day of the wedding, but for weeks surrounding it.

However, the wedding ceremony was a fairytale, held in a dream-like venue: The Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.

The Dress:

Again, which one? One of the beauties of this wedding representing a union of two cultures was the excuse for two dresses. And Priyanka looked just as beautiful in both.

Hindu ceremony: Red lehenga by Sabyasachi Mukherji. Beautifully described by Priyanka as an amalgamation of who she is. “I always knew I wanted a red traditional silhouette for my wedding, but Sabya brought in incredible French embroidery to the mix. And with incredible jewellery and a western-inspired veil, it was just such an amalgamation of who I am!”

Christian ceremony: Custom gown by Ralph Lauren. The dress was rich in embellishment, with mother of pearl paillettes, crystal seed beading and Swarovski crystals. Priyanka’s personal request for words to be incorporated into its embroidery made this dress one of a kind. Love, compassion, family, hope, Nicholas Jerry Jonas and ‘om namaha shiva’.

The Cake:

Maybe the most extravagant wedding cake we have ever seen. We told you the wedding was like a fairytale, and this huge towering dream-house cake was no exception.

Harry and Meghan

The extravagant celebrity wedding which undoubtedly stole the show in 2018 was that of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The Venue:

St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The Dress:

Wedding dress by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. The dress was perfectly described as having achieved a “timeless minimal elegance” in a tweet by Kensington Palace. Her second dress, which she wore to the reception, was by Stella McCartney. Both exhibited the “subtly romantic” and “classic and simple” style Meghan described of herself in an interview with Glamour in 2016. In this way, Meghan’s dress stylishly defied the extravagant celebrity wedding pattern, with no huge frills, lace or diamonds.

The Cake:

The wedding cake which graced the table at Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception gave us a lot of wedding cake inspiration (and envy). London Baker, Claire Ptak, made a gorgeous lemon and elderflower cake, covered in a textured swiss meringue buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers. A summery choice which looked gorgeous and sounds like it definitely tasted amazing too!

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

Neil and David were engaged for 5 years before tying the knot. In celebration of the Marriage Equality Act passing in New York, of course it was only right to throw an extravagant celebrity wedding. However, although it required jet setting and designer suits, it was an intimate family affair.

The Venue:

The ceremony took place in the grounds of a castle in Perugia, Italy, at sunset. Can you think of anything much more romantic than that?

The Suits:

Custom Tom Ford tuxedos.

The Entertainment:

Oh, and the wedding entertainment was only Elton John.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are definitely couple goals. By the time you’re reading this, they already have a gorgeous family and home. However, let’s #throwback to their gorgeous wedding day in Italy, with an array of dresses and a giant carrot cake.

The Venue:

Villa Pizzo in Lake Como, Italy. The couple are said to have fallen in love while on holiday there so it was a natural choice for a romantic location.

The Dress:

Chrissy embraced her ‘extra’ nature, wearing not one, but three beautiful Vera Wang gowns on her wedding day.

For the actual ceremony, she wore a stunning strapless, V-neck ball gown with a tulle skirt, in ivory. Chrissy Teigen is a bride who epitomised the extravagant celebrity weddings that we love!

The Cake:

Chrissy is a foodie and a great cook. She actually now has her own cook books! So, we’ll leave the description of her wedding cake to her. Here is a recent Throwback she put on Insta:

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Kim and Kanye are the ultimate extravagant celebrity couple and so, it should come as no surprise that their wedding was equally as extravagant.

The Venue:

Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy on May 24, 2014. Although Kimye promised an intimate wedding ceremony, they still managed to deliver extravagance, hiring a 16th century fortress in Italy.

The Dress:

Givenchy Haute wedding gown by Riccardo Tisci. Kim Kardashian blew us away with her stunning custom lace wedding gown with long sleeves and adorned with pearls. The dress came to an estimated half a million pounds.

The Cake:

Kim and Kanye opted for a 7 foot cake made of traditional fruit layers and covered in white icing. It was served with a homemade strawberry sorbet from Italian caterers Galateo Ricevimenti.

Serena Williams and Alex Ohanian

Serena and Alex, the greatest tennis player of all time and the founder of Reddit. Maybe an unexpected couple but a love story which we adore. Meeting by chance at a hotel breakfast table in Rome, the couple discovered that opposites really do attract. They were married 18 months later.

The Venue:

The Contemporary Arts Centre in New Orleans. The couple chose this location due to its European influence and Serena’s love for art. The venue was French-ball themed with Beauty and the Beast decorations. They also decided to get married on the 16th November, the ninth anniversary since her mother unfortunately passed away.

The Dress:

Serena Williams chose to wear 3 dresses on her wedding day; each one was beautiful. However, our favourite was the one in which she walked down the aisle. What a dress. Serena’s £2.6million stunning fairy-tale wedding gown was a strapless Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Alan Carr and Paul Drayton

Ok, we had to include this wedding because it was officiated by none other than…Adele?! If you haven’t fallen in love with this wedding already, when will you?

The venue:

Alan Carr and Paul Drayton tied the knot in January 2018 at Adele’s own home!

The suits:

The grooms chose to go against the grain by rejecting a traditional suit colour scheme. Instead they opted for brown and beige suits with white rose buttonholes.

The cake:

Everybody loves chocolate cake and Alan and Paul’s wedding cake choice was definitely a crowd pleaser. The newlyweds and their beloved Irish-setter dogs were made into plastic models to sit on top of the delicious looking chocolate sponge, frosted with chocolate icing.

Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan

The venue:

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright were wed in the English countryside, in a Tudor Mansion: Hengrave Hall. Traditionally adorned with bouquets of flowers and white tablecloths, this wedding epitomised the idyllic British summertime

The Dress:

If we’re honest, Michelle Keegan would look beautiful in a bin bag. But, she still went all the way in true extravagant celebrity wedding style and wore a bespoke gown by Galia Lahav. In ivory, her gown had a fishtail style complemented by her hair falling in loose curls. The dress was laced and adorned with Swarovski crystals and featured a deep V back.

The cake:

The cake was a towering 5 tiers, made up of lemon and vanilla. It was decorated with clustered cream roses and petals.

Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre

Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre melted our hearts when we saw the photos of their beautiful wedding day. Choosing Morrocco as the destination to tie the knot, the couple stretched the festivities over 3 days, with a star-studded guest list (Diana Ross and Christian Louboutin).

The Venue:

Idris and Sabrina’s wedding was hosted in the Ksar Char Bagh hotel, Marrakech. With a classic Morrocon opulence, the venue boasts a plethora of grand courtyards, a pool, a tennis court, hammam and a spa. With a herb garden and farm, the guests were also fed organically.

The Dress:

Of course, in extravagant celebrity wedding style, Sabrina Dhowre wore a selection of dresses. Three to be precise.

However, her ceremony wedding gown was by none other than Vera Wang. The off the shoulder style was delicate and like Priyanka, Sabrina requested meaningful words be incorporated into the embroidery of her Chantilly lace veil. Idris’ tattoo “this train carries no wrong-doers”.

The Cake:

The wedding cakes, (yes, just like the dress and the venues…there was more than one), just sound delicious. One was Madagascan vanilla and cherry and the other, Moroccan olive oil.

Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor

The pair got hitched privately in an intimate ceremony first. However, they did not disappoint and later on threw another wedding which provided us with that extravagant celebrity wedding content that we love!

The Venue:

Millie and Hugo decided to tie the knot at Whithurst Park in West Sussex, a venue owned by Hugo’s uncle. Their reception was on the grounds in a huge, white marquee bursting with pink peonies and roses, giving us British summertime inspiration, like Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan.

The Dress:

Millie wore a stunning bespoke Kate Halfpenny wedding dress with detachable ‘double bubble’ sleeves. We love the unique and fun style.

The Cake:

Millie and Hugo opted for an unconventional wedding cake but we 100% respect their choice. A tower of macarons in multi-colours was the show stopping dessert of choice.
