A wedding is a tradition in and of itself, but within a wedding, there are many opportunities for a couple to connect to their history, heritage, family, and values. We’re excited to introduce this new series, Wedding Traditions, where real brides and grooms share the traditions they included in their big day, and what the tradition means to them.
Says bride Gabi: “I am Cuban-American so it was important to me to add some of that culture into our ceremony. In addition to taking Communion, we had two of my aunts place a wedding ‘mantilla’, which is a type of shawl made of lace that covered our shoulders, symbolizing our unity as husband and wife—the marriage union. The same mantilla was used in several other family members who were married before us.”
