Winter Wedding Dress Inspiration

While the summer months may still be considered the ideal time to get married, we’ve often thought of the winter wedding season as the most romantic. Think dark, starry nights, roaring open fires and opulent festive themes. But finding a winter wedding dress to suit your theme, make you feel a million dollars and avoid any risks of catching pneumonia on your big day can be a struggle.

Although this year’s New York Bridal Fashion Week may have fallen victim to the pandemic, there were still plenty of gorgeous looks being digitally showcased. We’ve scoured the virtual runways and lookbooks to bring you the latest Autumn/Winter 2021 wedding dress trends and winter wedding dress inspiration. Here are some of our favourite looks.

Off-the-Shoulder Puff Sleeves

The most obvious option to add some extra warmth to your outfit is with sleeves. And this season’s hot take is off-the-shoulder organza sleeves. Combining a cold-shoulder look with dramatic puff sleeves is an instant way to add some drama to your bridal look. From over-sized cropped sleeves at Eisen Stein to Anne Barge’s lace detailing, via Halfpenny London’s attachable Sun Sleeves it’s clear adding sleeves to your winter wedding dress doesn’t mean sacrificing style.

Layering

Another winter wedding dress trend (and a way for winter brides to keep warm) is layering. You may not think that layering is possible, or a good look, for your wedding outfit, but it doesn’t have to be the abundance of meringue-style fabric you’re conjuring up in your head. Layering can be soft and delicate, like we see in Leanne Marshall’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection and the Edem Orchid cape, or it can be a statement jacket over a sleek slip dress as Halfpenny London proves with the Warhol Coat or embellished Duffy Jacket.

Winter Wedding Dresses with Sparkle

If you can’t add a bit of sparkle at Christmas then when can you? Eisen-Stein gives a masterclass in celestial sparkle with their latest Autumn/Winter 2021 collection, while Temperely London shows us how to amp up the winter glamour and channel those 70s disco vibes.

The Wedding Jumpsuit

A winter wedding isn’t for everyone, but for many of those opting for a wedding over the festive season you’ll want to make a statement. Show that you’re not a stickler for tradition with a winter wedding jumpsuit.

Ballerina Winter Wedding Dresses

From Swan Lake to the Nutcracker, the ballet is a Christmas tradition and a great way to give a subtle nod to a Christmas theme at your winter wedding. Layers of tulle, barely-there bodices and nipped in waists create a ballerina silhouette and stunning bridal look.

Shrug Wedding Dresses

A new silhouette we saw take to the virtual runway for the Fall/Winter collections in New York was the shrug. A flattering and fashion-forward look, this will also keep bare arms warm on those colder winter days.
