Australia set the scene for Nicole and Peter’s engagement. “We were on the holiday of a lifetime after visiting relatives in Perth for their own wedding. We snorkelled in the Great Barrier Reef; ate like kings in Brisbane, and fell in love with Sydney. Pete proposed on the last night of our holiday next to Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was the Vivid Light Festival at the same time, making it even more special!” Nicole tells us.

The bride chose a gown by La Sposa for her big moment during a visit to Lola Bridal in Northampton.

The ‘Rolanda’ design was a tulle strapless mermaid style featuring a sweetheart neckline and lace appliqués.

“It was exactly what I hadn’t been looking for – I wanted floaty, it was fitted. I wanted sleeves, it was strapless. I wanted understated, it had a train – but, on the boutique’s recommendation, I tried it on and it was the first dress that made me feel like a bride!” A single layer tulle cathedral-length veil, also from Lola Bridal, and Kurt Geiger heels completed her aisle style, with the bride opting for a second pair of peep toe heels for more comfortable dancing later on.

Peter and his groomsmen all hired suits from Debenhams, choosing slim-fit, navy three-piece suits with light pink ties and pocket squares. The boys all wore bright pink socks! Pete added Paul Smith tan brogues and I gifted him an engraved tan Fossil watch, Mulberry cufflinks and a tan belt. He looked a lot more emotional than I had expected – he’s always the relaxed, jokey one. It really was the best day of our lives.”

Seven bridesmaids attended Nicole. “It was more than I had intended but they are all so special to me I was happy to have them by my side! They wore the ‘Kate Lace Maxi’ gowns from ASOS after trying on lots of other dresses in both high street and bridal stores.

“They were by far the most flattering for my bridesmaids’ range of heights, sizes and complexions!”

Aimee Garner MUA took care of the bridal makeup. “The MAC Cremesheen in Peach Blossom even converted me into a lipstick lover!” smiles Nicole.

The couple’s ceremony took place at Bassmead Manor Barns in the Rickety Barn.

“It’s a gorgeous barn that requires very little decoration.”

When I entered the barn I suddenly felt very nervous and my dad and I couldn’t remember which side we should stand on, but our co-ordinator appeared and made us feel completely at ease. After the ceremony we escaped to the viewing gallery at the top of the barn with a glass of fizz for a more private moment to ourselves.

We didn’t really have a theme as such but we did choose a neutral colour scheme of ivory, white and blush pink.

“We used a lot of wood and tried to keep things relaxed to complement the rustic but beautifully renovated barns.”

Wedding Ideas was great, it was full of helpful information, great ideas and gorgeous real weddings!” Shropshire Petals confetti lined the aisle, gypsophila hearts hung from the walls and the beams were wrapped with fairy lights. The groom’s brother crafted over 80 wooden bases for the pillar candles that topped every table. Blackboard and wooden signs from Ginger Ray, a homemade seating plan created from reclaimed fence panels and illuminated N&P letters from Wedding Letter Hire completed the look.

My auntie Louisa did all of the flowers! We used gypsophila in the main barn along the aisle and a variety of blooms in the bouquets and table centrepieces. The groomsmen and mothers also had buttonholes featuring roses and gypsophila.” The couple’s cake was sourced from Marks and Spencer, with the bride simply adding a ‘Just Married’ bunting cake topper, also from Ginger Ray, for a timeless design. “We also ordered a crate of rainbow meringues from Meringue Girls – they were beautiful, both to look at and to eat!”

Their band, The Colts, played two acoustic sets during the drinks reception and two incredible live sets during the evening, also providing a DJ in between.

“The songs were eclectic and lively so we had people of all ages filling the dance floor all night. We aren’t the slow dancing kind of people so we wanted a song that was fun but didn’t require a full routine. ‘You and Me’ by The Wannadies was the perfect choice – we were joined by friends and family and it really set the tone for the evening dancing.”

New York called for Nicole and Peter’s initial honeymoon. “We loved our five-night minimoon – we stayed at the Refinery Hotel which had an incredible rooftop bar! We’ve also booked our relaxing honeymoon just after the wedding with Kuoni and will be off to Antigua and St Lucia for two weeks – we can’t wait to escape the winter and do absolutely nothing!”
