When a bottle of vintage Champagne appears on Christmas Eve, you know something magical is about to happen. “Neil came in with the Champagne and got down on one knee. I was totally shocked and burst into tears. He gave me the most beautiful ring. I love Christmas, so it was the perfect timing.”

Bravely, the bride opted for the bespoke route for her dress without trying on a single gown at a boutique. “I had a brilliant experience with Kirsty Doyle, who made my dress exactly as I wanted it, but I do wish in hindsight that I had tried on a few to experience that excitement of putting on a wedding dress earlier on.”

“I took inspiration from my favourite red carpet looks, as well as Neil’s tastes, to design my wedding dress.”

The dressmaker also created the outfits for the bride’s maid of honour and daughter.

Avoiding anything sparkly to complement her structured gown, Natalie accessorised with a veil, embellished with pearls to look like snow drops, and royal blue shoes.

Having used Pinterest to get inspiration for his look, Neil and his groomsmen chose suits at the Grooms Room in Birkdale. “They all wore navy, with Neil opting for a grey, double-breasted waistcoat to contrast the others. They looked so smart.”

Working as an events manager, this bride already had an A-list team she knew she’d love to take care of her big day beauty. “I got both my first choices for hair and makeup and, even though I knew they’d deliver, I booked trials anyway to save time trying out looks on the wedding morning.”

The couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony at West Tower.

“With it being a winter wedding, we didn’t want to marry in a cold church or to have to travel between venues.”

“West Tower was the perfect solution. Our oldest friends read ‘The One’ and the Apache wedding prayer during the ceremony and I walked down the aisle with my brother to ‘A Thousand Years’, played by Aramis string quartet. I was so nervous exchanging vows that I got the giggles!”

Fish and chip canapés greeted guests after the ceremony, before they sat down to three courses of haddock fishcakes, roast beef and sticky toffee pudding.

Wedding Ideas and Pinterest were my best friends when planning and it was the styling of our gold winter wedding that got me most excited. After making my own intricate invitations, I felt inspired to create my table plan, orders of service, place cards and menus too. I also hired lighting from North West Unique.

“We chose a natural but glamorous gold winter wedding theme and the flowers really added the wow factor.”

“I wanted a florist who would bring the best out of me while appreciating that I knew what I wanted and didn’t want to be told to do things differently. Working with Joseph Massie was brilliant – he delivered everything I wanted and more!” The arrangements had an unstructured aesthetic in the chosen palette of gold.

“I also really wanted to be married under an archway. Our florist created a gold, rose gold and copper arch for us – the flowers were all naturally coloured too! I wouldn’t change a single thing about them, they created the exact atmosphere I wanted.”

Claire Southern Macarons baked the four-tier cake, which featured lemon, salted caramel, Victoria sandwich and red velvet layers. It was topped with an Always Lovely cake topper. “She also made macaron wedding favours, finished with beautiful tags that featured a quote I’d tracked down on Pinterest.

We hired DJ Steve Mitchell for the dancing – he was a dream to work with and his online system for song requests made everything easy in the run up to the big day. Neil would have been happy dancing to the Beatles all night, but I wanted some live soul music too. James Franklyn and the Soul Machine, hired through Garston Entertainment, fit the bill perfectly. We also had a lovely duo, Jamie Clarke and Jack, performing in the cellar bar during the day. They also played our first dance song.”

After the wedding, the newlyweds honeymooned in Dubai for 10 days with their daughter. “Dinner at Asia Asia one night was a real highlight.”

“Cherish the small moments from your wedding as well as the big, sometimes they become the most special.”

“Choosing the photographer to capture our wedding took a lot of research. Ultimately, we booked Foxley Photography for their effortless style and ability to capture the key moments. I don’t like posed photographs and didn’t want to be aware of being photographed because it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Ollie and AJ from Foxley were lovely and totally understood our priorities. They are experts in capturing the special moments and yet I didn’t notice them during the day. We did half an hour of shots with family and just Neil and I and the rest were natural, so we could enjoy time with our guests and make the most of having just got married!”
