How to Choose Between an Indoor and Outdoor Wedding…

Depending on where you live, this decision may be a given for some couples on whether or not they want to have an indoor wedding or an outdoor wedding. Some couples have perfect weather all year round and know the perfect spot for a gorgeous outdoor wedding. Other couples have unpredictable weather and aren’t sure if they should risk the 100 degree July heat, or maybe they’ll have a chance for a nice breezy day.

Location

The first thing you need to do is weigh your options! Look around for what you’re interested in and what venues around you offer indoor and outdoor space. If you live near the beach and know you want a beach wedding, then there you have it! For others, it might take some venue-shopping to make the decision for you. Imagine finding the perfect outdoor venue tucked into the mountains outside of town that overlooks the perfect view and you just have to get married there. Sometimes you have to be given so many options, both indoor and outdoor, and pick the one that inspired you the most.

Ceremony vs. Reception

The next thing you need to think about is whether or not you want the ceremony and reception both outside, both inside, or one or the other. It’s common for couples to have a beautiful outdoor ceremony but then take the reception indoors to cool off a bit. This is always a good idea especially in terms of heat, bugs, and other weather issues that come with outdoor events. Tent receptions are gorgeous when the weather is nice, but you can put walls up on them, too, to keep in the air conditioned air!

Weather

Know the weather patterns for the time of year you plan to get married, even if it’s unpredictable. If you’re from the midwest, you know that the beginning of the year calls for snow and ice, then tons of rain and humidity, and the summers get hot. But have no fear, Midwesterners, the fall is perfect weather. As you plan your big day, remember to keep your local weather patterns in mind as you decide on the location. The best thing you can do is to always have a plan B, and a person there to help make sure everything runs smoothly. Also, keep your guests in mind as you pick your venue. They are the ones that will have to endure the weather patterns.

No matter which type venue you choose, you can’t go wrong as long as you love your option. Outdoor weddings have their pros and cons, and when it all works out, you’ll be happy you went with an outdoor wedding. Indoor weddings are a good way to play it safe and avoid having to make a plan B.

Are you planning an outdoor wedding? What are some good plan B options for your wedding day? Let us know your thoughts!
