Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in a bespoke wedding dress designed by Givenchy today.

The former Suits actress walked down the aisle on Saturday, 19 May 2018 for the royal wedding 2018, in the label created by British designer Clare Waight Keller.

The former Suits actress, 36, chose to work with the Waight Keller “for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour”.

Meghan wanted to “highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses – Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, and now Givenchy”.

It comes after bookmakers suspended betting on the designer of Ms Markle’s wedding dress in March when British couture company Ralph & Russo pulled ahead of London-based designer, Erdem, to become favourites at 3/1.

The label, helmed by Australians Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo (a real-life couple) has shot to prominence after a string of celebrity endorsements.

In 2014, Angelina Jolie wore the label to Buckingham Palace to receive an honorary damehood while in 2016 Gwyneth Paltrow wore Ralph & Russo to the Oscars.

And Meghan Markle herself chose to wear a £56,000 black embellished couture gown for the official photos taken to mark her engagement to Prince Harry.

In a 2016 interview with Glamour magazine, Meghan (whose Suits character, Rachel Zane, was then preparing to walk down the aisle at the time) opened up about her favourite bridal designers.

Speaking to the publication at the time, Meghan said: “Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty,

“And I will always be a fan of Elie Saab. J. Mendel is spectacular as well, especially for more structural designs.”

And the dress looks to be a combination of classic and contemporary. The princess-to-be added: “I have the luxury of wearing beautiful pieces of clothing every day for work, so my personal style – wedding or not – is very pared down and relaxed.

“Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist. I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic.”
