Minimoon Review: Four Seasons Hotel in Prague
Perfect for couples, newlyweds or even a hen do, the Czech capital is a beautiful, compact city that is truly magical at this chilly time of year. But if you’re looking to make your visit that bit more extra special, why not treat yourself to a stay at Four Seasons Hotel in Prague?
Rooms?
Located beside the River Vltava, near to the capital’s iconic Charles Bridge and within walking distance of the Old Town, this architecturally-stunning hotel is made up of four different buildings – the Neo-Renaissance House, The Neo-Classical House, The Baroque House, and the main building.
Inside, the hotel accommodates over 157 rooms, including 19 fabulous suites. You’ll find each room is unique depending on which of the five categories you’ve chosen (grades vary from Modern to Premier River, from £260), whether it’s a different interior colour scheme, or the glorious views out of your window (river or the Old Town).
If you’d prefer a riverside view, you won’t be disappointed if you opt for Neo-Classic House – the suites here offer the perfect setting for a glass of wine in the evening, where you can watch the sun set against the backdrop of Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.
Facilities?
As for amenities, guests receive complimentary use of the 24-hour fitness suite, vitality pool, sauna, steam rooms, and Ava Spa, the latter of which offers the very best massages in Prague.
Restaurant?
Four Seasons Hotel in Prague has one main restaurant – CottoCrudo – which offers delectable Italian cuisine with a twist.
During our stay, however, the were two new pop-up eateries to check out, the first being Japanese-style Miru, which was located on the rooftops to offer superb views. The second – Piazzetta – can be discovered on the hotel’s lobby terrace, with a food-truck-style menu of pizzas and ice creams, plus hot chocolate and mulled wine in the winter months.
Special touches?
Arrive here at Christmas, and the concierge at Four Seasons Hotel in Prague offers complimentary tours of the Old Town and Christmas markets on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, plus you’ll get to see the authentic ‘apple cutting’ tradition, which is said to bring good luck, inside Piazzetta.
Four Seasons Hotel in Prague also offers potpourri-making workshops, to remind them of their time in Prague and at the hotel. There’s a Christmas-themed afternoon tea in the Gallery, too, plus traditional Czech cookies on offer for those indulging in warm festive drinks in front of the fireplace.
Out and about?
It’s very cold in Prague in December, so make sure you wrap up warm and bring and umbrella in case it rains. When it comes to exploring the city, it’s best to start on the opposite side of the river and head towards the top of Prague Castle.
With stunning views from the top of the castle, you can walk freely around the grounds and lap up a little festive spirit with the small Christmas market behind the cathedral.
Within the castle, there’s various buildings you can visit, including St Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, and Golden Lane – just to name a few. St Wenceslas Vineyard, located next door, is where you’ll find yet more Christmas markets and a bistro restaurant.
Outside the grounds, it’s worth exploring the area and soaking up the amazing architecture Prague has to offer, whether it’s the churches (St George’s Basilica is one of the oldest in Prague), the Old Town Bridge Tower, or the Museum Kampa, a modern art gallery located on the riverside.
Beatles fans will love John Lennon’s ‘Lennon Wall’, filled with song lyrics from the musician about global issues. The National Theatre is a great spot to catch a show, while on the opposite side of the river, you’ll find the Old Town Hall with its Astronomical Clock, with great views guaranteed when you climb up its tower.
Tech-heads should check out the Apple Museum, which showcases the history of the famous brand, from the first-ever Macintosh to the company’s latest products.
Local food?
For the days when you’re not dining at the Four Seasons’ restaurants, the best places to eat out and about include the Mailroom Bistro, which serves Czech cuisine – the truffle gnocchi is highly recommended.
Try Restaurace Mlejnice or Restaurace Mincovna for traditional Czech food and beer, or for breakfast, check out Cafe Savoy.
Good Food, Coffee & Bakery offers the city’s iconic chimney cakes, which you can try with or without ice cream.
Out for cocktails? L’Fleur Mixology and Champagne is a fantastic French bar that showcases its cocktails with French icons. Bugsy’s Bar is an American-style joint, or try Anonymous Bar for tipples inspired by the film V For Vendetta.
