Ring Rules!??!…

Why are there so many rules around engagement rings? There seem to be a lot, many are contradictory, and frankly— they can make your head hurt!

It’s RING SEASON for a lot of couples so we’re taking a look at Ring Rules, assuming there actually are any!

The size is going to vary! Your budget, whether the ring/stone is vintage or a family piece, or what your individual tastes are all play an enormous part! Maybe you don’t want a classic diamond at all—- or even a stone, instead opting for a classic or contemporary band.

Some couples are opting to pass on the engagement ring going for a matching wedding set, either stones or bands.

Money Under 30 says, “So how much should you REALLY spend on an engagement ring?

“You may have heard something about spending two or three months’ salary on a diamond engagement ring. And, yes, three months’ salary would certainly buy a beautiful ring—if you can afford it. But the truth is, an engagement ring is neither a necessity nor an investment. The last thing you want to bring to a new marriage is unnecessary debt and financial stress. So why let the diamond industry tell you how much to spend?”

Good advice! Don’t spend more than you have for any reason! Approach purchasing an engagement ring with practicality and arm yourself with research.

Ask friends and family for recommendations of jewelers they trust and liked to work with.

Know what your budget is before you go shopping!

Have an idea of what you’re looking before ahead of time.

Shop around, compare apples with apples— that is compare the stone for the same cut color and clarity.

Buy a ring that has meaning to the two of you, something that represents the two of you.

We believe that you shouldn’t rely on a calculation to tell you how much to spend on a ring. Take a realistic look at your budget, research rings, is there a family ring that might be available?

Buy a ring with one thing in mind, this ring will be the reminder of your marriage forever! That doesn’t mean you need to spend an outrageous amount on it— it means that the ring should be personal and meaningful.
