Whitewashed brick walls, structural metal beams, timeworn wooden workbenches – these are the hallmarks of industrial chic style, especially when coupled with exposed Edison bulbs. Did we mention it’s super hot for weddings right now?

It is a style that is at once raw and chic, and works equally well in restored barn interiors or stylish city warehouse venues and bohemian bars. Little surprise then, that the industrial chic theme is becoming ever more popular for weddings, adding quirky, characterful and urban twists to more traditional decorations.

It’s not all hard lines, either, as the styled shoot above shows. Teaming manmade features with softer accents – think translucent fabrics, soft paper pompoms, and a muted palette of pastel tones – will add that feminine, almost fairytale edge to the otherwise industrial look.

If you want to perfectly balance contemporary city style and industrial influences but still strike a romantic note with your finished reception décor, then this might be the perfect theme for you! Here’s how to source the industrial chic style for your own big day.

Wedding signs have long been on the must-have lists for many couples. Whether you choose to signpost different wedding areas or opt for a more symbolic and sentimental approach, wedding signs double up as beautiful decorations and backdrops as well as sometimes having a practical use. To introduce an industrial chic twist, aim for signs with reclaimed wood effect planks and letterpress-style type. A little wear and tear will add authenticity, so embrace any knocked corners, peeling paint and marks.

Just like the tassels in the styled shoot images we’re using as our style guide, these pretty paper pompoms are a simple and elegant way to introduce softer textures into quite an industrial environment. They’re a must if your venue has high ceilings (lofts, warehouses and converted barns, we’re looking at you!). Suspend them at a range of heights in a range of tones of the same core colour for an understated but chic impact.

It’s almost inevitable that somewhere in your industrial chic décor you’ll include metallics. Copper and rose gold rose to wedding fame last year, and as a trend these glinting tones are set to stay. One way to inject the warming tones that those bare brick and whitewashed walls needs is through gold or copper table runners – we love this gold glittering one. Spanning the length of your tables, they’ll anchor the rest of your décor with a chic colour base.

Did someone say oversized, illuminated letters? Yes, they are quite possibly the most popular wedding lighting trend and yes, you absolutely can include them in your industrial chic theme! Choose options with larger bulbs, metal casings and angular designs for the best effect. Spell out a word like these LOVE letters do (grab them for your big day here!) or opt for individual letters for your initials, then stand them on the dance floor and get partying!
