Kristen and Ben’s traditional summer wedding was filled with gorgeous florals that accented their color scheme of dusty shale. “We wanted a large, traditional wedding. I wanted simple yet elegant details and decor. I was browsing bridesmaid dresses for several days when I stumbled upon J. Crew’s “Dusty Shale” colored dresses and fell in love with that color for our summer wedding! I added blush, champagne, and ivory details to go with the dusty shale green color! The floral arrangements played a big part in our wedding because our “dusty shale green” was a hard color to match in other details. So, our green color came mainly from the seeded eucalyptus in all of our floral arrangements. We added blush roses and white hydrangeas to tie everything together. We did a mixture of tall and short centerpieces throughout the reception hall.”

The bride’s side of the family is very Polish, and the groom’s side of the family is mainly from Wisconsin. So, both of the families like to polka dance. The bride’s family has a polka band (the Grabinski Polka Band), who has recorded music in the past. The CD was played by our DJ at various times throughout the night and everyone loved it. In addition, the bride and groom met on the Wisconsin Cheerleading Team at UW-Madison, so several of UW’s traditional songs were played by the DJ throughout the night.

The bride’s look came mainly from wanting a traditional, lacy, elegant wedding dress. I also felt more like myself with my hair down and curled, so that’s what I went with. I also wanted natural-looking make-up! The groom liked dark gray for the suit color, so that’s what we went with! The groom also matched the bride by wearing a simple, white tie.

“We both are pretty traditional people, so we decided to not see each other before the ceremony. So, the most special moment for us was seeing each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle with my Dad!”

Advice from the bride:

“Advice that I received prior to our day was to “link arms during the first part of the reception so that you don’t get separated”. We did this when walking around to tables and it actually helped us be able to see each other more during our day/not get separated. It was nice since the day goes by so fast and you want to be able to spend it with your new husband/wife!”
