You’re at the store, you’ve gone to the kiosk and created your wedding registry, and now you’re standing there with a scanner in your hand. Trust us…the temptation to run wild through the store clicking on everything that catches your eye is going to grab you. We’re here to try and bring you back under control and approach your registry with a different perspective: choosing things you’ll actually need.

One key to registering for wedding gifts it to include options at a variety of price points. This will allow guests with varying budgets to choose things for you that you love. The other key is to choose items that won’t just sit in boxes in storage or in cabinets on display. Rather, you’ll want to choose gifts that will actually improve your lives. Here are some items that we feel all newlyweds should have:

For the kitchen:
– A good set of pots of pans. Make sure you choose a set with at least three different sized pots, three different sized pans, and lids that can fit any of them.
– A good set of kitchen knives. We recommend a set that includes both cutting knives and steak knives. You’ll also want a sharpening steel.
– Kitchen essentials. We’re talking one good lasagna pan, a sturdy cheese grater, a salad spinner, a set of nonstick baking sheets, a set of mixing bowls, measuring cups and spoons, plastic food storage containers, a colander, and cutting boards, to name a few.
– Kitchen appliances. Coffee makers/grinders, Crock Pots, blenders, stand mixers, hand mixers, juicers, food processors, toasters, or other helpful kitchen appliances always make good registry items.

For the bath:
– New bath and hand towels (for every bathroom).

For the bedroom:
– At least two nice sets of sheets. You should get at least one for your bed and another for a spare bed.
Bedding sets.
– Pillows. Don’t just go for accent pillows, either. Be practical and go for comfortable pillows you’ll want to sleep on every night.

Other:
– Luggage. You’ll want good luggage to take on your honeymoon, and a decent set of luggage will last you ten or more years. This is by far one of the most practical gifts you can add to your registry!

So we’ve covered the essentials… what would you add to this list?
