Recently Keith Phillips, Director of Business Development for Perfect Wedding Guide National Vendor; Classic Photographers shared a great new wedding photography trend with our Perfect Wedding Guide Team. Honeymoon Shoots!

Here’s what Keith had to share:

Engagement shoots have always been the go-to for couples celebrating and announcing their impending nuptials. But recently, we’re seeing a rise in popularity of “moon” sessions –a post-wedding honeymoon shoot. This fresh take on a tried-and-true, traditional concept has piqued the interest of couples everywhere, so it begs the question: what perks does this trend have to offer?

Perks of a moon session shoot

The excitement of an engagement shoot is irreplaceable, of course, but one of the preferences of opting for a moon session is simply that there’s less stress surrounding the experience for the couple. The planning process is completely over, and there’s no longer a huge to-do list looming over everyone’s heads. The shoot itself is overall more relaxed, and it’s an amazing way to document your first week(and vacation)as a married couple in a beautiful location. Bonus: you can use the photos for thank-you cards!

Honeymoons are also generally more aesthetically pleasing in terms of backdrop, whether it’s a tropical place with a beachy sunset or in the mountains with tons of lush greenery. Those elements make the shoot more romantic and sentimental in more ways than one!

What couples should know –timeline, details, and more

So, let’s get down to the real question: how is planning a moon session different than planning an engagement session, and what should you be mindful of? Luckily, if you and your new spouse are staying at a resort, there’s usually a professional photographer available on-site. If not, it is best to hire a local photographer about 30 days prior to your trip, or sooner if you’ve got the planning itch. More often than not, your honeymoon is in an area you haven’t been to before so you will want to coordinate with the photographer well in advance to ask them about locations for the shoot.

Hiring local will also come in handy when it comes to expenses. There’s no need to consider flying in a photographer to your location and providing accommodations when you can easily opt for someone that’s native to the area you’re visiting. A one-hour shoot is usually most you’ll need, perhaps two hours if you’re traveling to multiple spots. That being said, you should be able to keep the pricing between $199 and $399, but understand that prices vary by photographer and locale.

Keep in mind that transportation can also pose as an issue, so it’s always a good idea to stay close to where you’re staying if you don’t have a car available; otherwise, you’ll have to include that cost into your package. Most importantly, make sure that your photographer includes the reprint rights to your pictures.

Now that your wedding is over take this as an opportunity to relax a bit on your honeymoon (and what better way to prep for a photo shoot?). Be sure to discuss turn-around time for the edited pictures with your photographer. And last but not least, make sure you don’t get a sunburn before picture day!

Thanks, Keith, always great advice coming from Classic Photographers.
