Louise and Gary celebrated their marriage with a beach wedding, with the bride wearing Mori Lee and the couple choosing romantic but pared back decor...

While Louise and Gary first met in their hometown of King’s Lynn, they’re no strangers to jet-setting adventures abroad. “We’ve been on some amazing trips away together over the last 12 years. It had even become a bit of a running joke between us that I’d come home feeling disappointed that I didn’t have a ring on my finger!

Gary planned a trip to Edinburgh for my birthday and our 10th anniversary and I thought the proposal might happen then, so when Gary proposed at home two weeks beforehand, I was so surprised! It was perfect,” Louise smiles.

This bride knew from the moment she got engaged where she wanted to look first for her wedding dress.

“I’d visited Cinderella’s in King’s Lynn twice before as a bridesmaid, so I knew the owners already and sure enough, I found my Morilee gown there!”

Louise chose an off-white ballgown with a full-length train and dainty buttons. “I loved the embellishments on the waist and straps and the sparkling embroidery and detailing on the translucent back.

I did very much want my mum to cry when I decided I’d found THE dress, though, and when she didn’t I did have a wobble, wondering whether I’d made the right choice… My final fitting convinced me that I had – I felt beautiful and like everything I imagined a bride should.”

Harriet, the bride’s maid of honour, kindly gifted her a headpiece from Aye Do Weddings and leant her a cathedral-length veil for her something borrowed. “My parents gifted me teardrop cluster earrings and my friend Gemma gave me a silver and Swarovski bracelet. I added ‘Lisa’ shoes from Kurt Geiger to complete my look.”

The groom opted for a stylish, slim-fit navy blue suit, hired from Moss Bros. “He teamed it with a white shirt, white pocket square and white tie for a clean cut look. I gifted him some silver motorbike cufflinks the Christmas before our wedding, which he wore too.”

“My first glimpse of Gary was when he legged it into the church! I’d arrived slightly early and when he saw the wedding car coming he dashed inside.”

Five bridesmaids and one maid of honour joined Louise, wearing Morilee bridesmaid dresses. “The chiffon gowns with lace capped sleeves and keyhole backs suited them all so well. We bought the dresses at Cinderella’s too. I gifted my bridesmaids tennis bracelets and droplet earrings.”

Five pageboys and one flower girl also walked down the aisle with the bride. “We saw an advert in Wedding Ideas for Occasionwear For Kids and bought the pageboys’ outfits from them.”

Louise and Gary said “I do” in a religious ceremony at St Faith’s Church, King’s Lynn. “We had two readings – ‘Love is Patient, Love is Kind’ from Corinthians and one written for us by our friend. I walked down the aisle to Wagner’s ‘The Bridal Chorus’ and we exited as husband and wife to Mendelssohn’s ‘The Wedding March’.”

“My dad was so proud walking me down the aisle… as soon as he’d stopped panicking because my veil fell off just beforehand!”

The couple celebrated their reception at Briarfields Hotel. “We were lucky enough to offer our guests a choice of three menus for each course. The food was delicious! We decided to hold the speeches before the wedding breakfast so that everyone could enjoy their food, rather than feeling nervous during the meal.

I didn’t want anything too busy, so we went for clean and elegant reception décor in a navy, white and coral palette. Our stationery suggested this, using a navy and coral border on white card. The brilliant I Do Wedding Designs created them for us.”

Staying true to their pared-back preferences, the couple added little in the way of decorations. “We wrapped fairy lights around the beams, hired giant LOVE letters and chose L&G letters for the top table. A friend of ours grew white pumpkins to decorate the front of the venue and we hired chair covers from Fairytale Finishing Touches.”

“Reading the weddings in Wedding Ideas helped me to evaluate what was most important for our day, based on other brides’ experiences.”

Another of the bride’s friends is the florist behind Flowers by Roxanne, so she was the natural choice for the blooms. “We had large centrepieces formed from Miss Piggy, vuvuzela and avalanche roses, eryngium orion, hydrangea and berries.”

It was the florist’s sister, Jasmin from Cakes Glorious Cakes, who created their four-tier cake. “She also happens to be a finalist from the Great Australian Bake Off! Jasmin made toasted marshmallow and raspberry macarons for us too, colour co-ordinated to our theme.”

A sweets crate, hired from GDC Weddings and Events, selfie sticks and a band headed up by Matt Strafford kept guests entertained.

“It was lovely being congratulated by fellow beach goers while we had our photographs taken by the sea!”

Having married in October, the newlyweds opted to wait until spring to honeymoon in Las Vegas and Mexico.
