A blush pink theme big day with vintage details

Self-confessed home bird, Harriet couldn’t have been happier with Sam’s Christmas Eve proposal. “We were at my parent’s home, which made it all the more perfect to celebrate together so soon afterwards. Sam had been behaving strangely all day, but I didn’t suspect that he was going to propose! The ring was a beautiful solitaire diamond.”
The bride’s dress shopping experience at Silk Brides was equally wonderful. “We had exclusive use of the boutique while I tried on dresses over Prosecco, cakes and fresh fruit. It was a wonderful added extra that made the experience all the more memorable.” It was a lace fishtail Pronovias design that stole Harriet’s heart, offering a timeless strapless sweetheart neckline.
“I felt amazing and didn’t want to take my dress off – although I did go on to try 15 more!”
Harriet accessorised with a subtly sparkling veil. “It complemented my dress perfectly and also came from the boutique.”
Sam sourced his outfit from Jeff Banks, opting for a navy blue fitted morning suit. He wore a cream patterned waistcoat, blush tie and pink pocket square to personalise his look. “I felt so overwhelmed and excited when I saw him. I couldn’t believe I was about to marry him!”
The bride asked her sister to be her chief bridesmaid, also enlisting her three childhood best friends to be her bridesmaids. “They wore Dessy blush pink, floor-length fitted dresses with puddle trains, sheer lace necklines and open backs. We bought them from Tickled Pink Bridal and I gifted each of the girls a silver infinity bracelet.”
Beauty was high on Harriet’s big day priority list, starting with finding the right makeup artist for her. “After months of research I found Rochelle O’Brien and opted for a full coverage look with smoky eyes and a bold lip. She used Armani foundation as well as Charlotte Tilbury blush and lipstick to create my look.”
“I didn’t need to touch up my makeup once all day and was so pleased with how it looked.”
“Charlotte Wesson created my relaxed curl, half up, half down hairstyle. I loved that she incorporated fresh flowers and a pretty side plait.”
Sam and Harriet exchanged vows in a civil ceremony at Ye Olde Bell Hotel and Spa. “I walked down the aisle with my father to Boyce Avenue’s cover of ‘A Thousand Years’ and Sam and I walked back up to ‘Love Is Easy’ by McFly. The look on Sam’s face was incredible, he was so emotional! His father and our mutual best friends both gave readings during the ceremony.”
The couple and their guests dined on cream of courgette soup, roast chicken wrapped in bacon with potato fondant and Eton mess for their wedding breakfast.
“The speeches were great – my father’s was very emotional and heartfelt, about me growing up and Sam joining the family. Sam gave me a Sheffield United shirt with Mrs Johnson on the back during his speech! His brother was his best man, so he picked out some hilarious moments from their childhood that had everyone in stitches.”
The couple chose a vintage lace meets blush pink theme for their day.
“We chose laser cut, blush pink invitations and a vintage mirror table plan. Our table names were vintage-style postcards, featuring handwritten messages from our favourite places that we have visited together.”
White Rose Occasions dressed the Bradgate Suite at Ye Olde Bell, including ivory chair covers, lace bows and vintage brooches alongside lace table runners and vintage candelabra. Jasmine Tree Gifts also supplied vintage ladders, which were styled with fairy lights, jam jars and flowers.
“We kept our flowers very traditional, with ivory and blush pink roses, trailing ivy and eucalyptus. Jill’s Fabulous Flowers arranged all the blooms, creating ivory and pink buttonholes as well as a trailing bouquet.
The floral theme extended to the wedding cake, created by Cherry Blossom Cakes, which was decorated with a cake topper and fresh flowers.
“What made our cake really special was that it was displayed on a vintage dressing table. It became a key feature in our venue décor.”
Pimp your Prosecco stalls encouraged guests to get involved and mingle, before The Warningtones took to the stage. “The band were exactly what we wanted – the brief was to keep the dance floor full and that’s exactly what they did… until 3am!”
After meeting Looch the mind reader at a wedding fair, the couple also asked the entertainer to join them after the speeches to keep guests entertained. “He made sure everyone’s energy levels stayed high and, when we re-watched our wedding video there were lots of amazed faces!”
The newlyweds honeymooned on the Caribbean island of Aruba for two weeks. “We stayed at the Bucuti and Tara Beach Resort, voted one of the most romantic hotels in the world, and it did not disappoint. From lazy days sunbathing on the beach to snorkelling and spotting pink flamingos, it was the trip of a lifetime.”
