Earlier this week our Head Over Heels blog shared a beautiful styled shoot of inspiration for hosting a bridal shower.

We got hit up with a number of questions about hosting bridal showers, so let’s break it down.

Who hosts a bridal shower?

It used to be in poor taste for the mother of the bride, the bride’s future mother in law or her sisters to host the bridal shower. Mostly because the purpose of a shower is to give gifts to the bride and this would make it look like they were asking for gifts.

Times have definitely changed, now pretty much anyone except the bride can host a bridal shower, but in most cases, it is still a duty of the bridal party.

Who gets invited to a bridal shower?

The host should always consult the bride for the guest list. The guests are nearly always people who are also invited to the wedding.

There are two exceptions to this. We are seeing a lot more showers hosted by co-workers where many people attending might not be invited to the wedding.

The other situation is where either of the families lives a long distance from where the couple lives. A shower may be hosted there for local family and friends who might not be invited to the wedding.

How many showers can be hosted?

Having multiple showers is OK, just be sure that different people are invited to each party. Only Immediate family and bridal party should be invited to multiple showers.

If I get invited to multiple showers, do I need to buy a gift for all of them?

No, this happens a lot, especially with the bridal party. It is OK to bring a gift to the first shower. But it’s nice to show up with a little something like flowers, chocolates or something small. as the bride it is really sweet to mention the gift given at the previous shower so they don’t feel left out

His and Hers and His and His and Hers and Hers?

Yes, yes and yes! We are seeing a lot more couples showers. These showers often have a fun theme centered around the couple’s likes such as wine, craft beer, cooking, travel or even favorite sports teams.

Same-sex wedding showers are becoming more popular, much of this depends on the couple, their family and friends and follow the same rules as a conventional shower.
